Texas R. Getz Texas Richard Getz was born in Philadelphia on Leap Year Day, February 29, 1944 to Fredrick S. and Christine Stumpfe Getz. He appears to be the youngest of 24 children. The family did not appear in the 1940 Census for Delanco, but was living converted boathouse on the Rancocas Creek at 139 Rancocas Ave in Delanco for the 1950 Census. There were 12 children still living on March 3, 1953 when a fire burned out their home at that location and killed his mother. Texas was led to safety by his father; Older brothers, Frank and Lucky, jumped out a second story window and were seriously injured. Texas joined the US Army and served in the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam from 1965 – 1967. He earned the rank of Sergeant Major and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. He was stationed for a time at Joint Base Lewis McChord in Washington from January 1993 to January 2004. He died at his residence in Clarksville, Montgomery Co, Tennessee on October 10, 2008 at age 64, and was buried with full military honors in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Christian County Kentucky.
